Belly Dance - It may not be what you think!

It is not an illegitimate art form lacking structure and requiring little or no training!

It is not exclusively for those who wish to perform! Only a small percentage of belly dancers actually perform in public.

It is not always done by women with great bodies in scant costumes! Many belly dancers (of all sizes) often choose traditional or traditionally inspired costumes to dance in. These costumes can provide full coverage from neck to ankles.

It is not hard! While it is true that it takes years to master all of the isolations, undulations and combinations of belly dance, the basics are natural movements which are, with a little practice and patience, relatively easy to learn.

It is an ancient art form dating back thousands of years. Within its rich history we find the origin of all dance forms.

It is a dance usually performed by a community of women. Primarily a group activity, most belly dance is done for and with fellow belly dancers.

It is open to women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Unlike other dance disciplines there is no “ideal” body type for belly dance. You are not too old or too big for belly dance!

It is fun and healthy! Belly dance is a great way to get (and stay) in shape. It can strengthen and tone muscles, increase flexibility and mobility, and improve posture and balance.
